Maslenitsa in Stroitegia

Perhaps one of the most jolly holidays is Maslenitsa. It is celebrated on the Sunday before the lenten fast, which precedes Easter, but the whole week before it is considered festive.

Each day of the Maslenitsa week has its own name and traditions. The Maslenitsa week itself is divided into two periods. Narrow Maslenitsa lasts from Monday to Wednesday, and Wide Maslenitsa — from Thursday to Sunday. The first three days of the week are spent doing household chores and preparing for the later festivities.

By custom, we chose Friday as the day for corporate fun. The hostesses of Stroitegia brought self-baked pancakes with different shapes and flavors. And at the lunch break all employees could treat themselves to a traditional Maslenitsa meal, as it was associated with the cult of the arising sun. That's where traditional pancakes came from. Round, hot and goldish, they are like miniature images of our luminary.

It is a known fact that bright holidays bring the team together, lift spirits and improve performance. That is why it is so important for us to have even small holidays within the team.

In ancient times, our favorite holiday Maslenitsa, which has pagan origin, was called Komoeditsa. It was dedicated to the awakening of bears (komas), who were regarded as the ancestors of humans.

The first pancakes baked by the hostess were taken to a bears lair, who were just waking up from winter sleep and were very hungry. That's where the well-known saying "The first pancake is always unbearable to eat" came from; but it does not necessarily mean a failure. In fact, the expression originally sounded different: "The first pancake is always for a bear to eat". The difference isn't that great, but it changes the whole meaning!

So we wish you success in all your endeavors and may the arrival of spring bring blossom not only to nature but also to the life of each and every one of you!
